Episode 14: Katie Kookaburra

Katie Kookaburra is an ultradistance cyclist, YouTuber and generally an amazing inspiration for anyone interested in getting into the World of long-distance cycling and endurance.

Her YouTube channel has over 86k subscribers and she vlogs about everything from weight loss, to long-distance rides to cycle fuelling recipes.  Katie chats about her journey into long-distance cycling and beyond in this podcast!

Episode 13: Ian Walker, World Record Ultra-distance cyclist and environmental psychologist

Ian Walker is the North to South Europe World record holder, riding across Europe, 6367km in 16days 20hours and 59minutes.  He has also participated in the Transcontinental race and has been first finisher in the North Cape 4000.  He has a wealth of experience in ultradistance cycling and running, but is also a Professor of Environmental Psychology doing research on road safety, travel choice and energy consumption.

Episode 12: Steve Abraham, Riding for the Highest Annual Mileage

Steve Abraham is a bit of a legend in the Audax World.  He quickly outdistanced his local CTC rides before he found out about Audax and then started going after the points record. But one challenge was even more tempting: the Highest Annual Mileage Record.

The Highest Annual Mileage record is the most miles ridden in any one rolling year and had last been set in 1939 by Tommy Godwin and Steve was determined to break it. It took a few attempts, different strategies and a broken ankle before in 2017 Steve held the Highest Annual Mileage for his age group and here he tells about his journey.

Unfortunately, technical issues meant we have been unable to recover the second half of Steve's podcast but we hope you still enjoy hearing his tale.

Episode 11: Matilda's Musings, Colin and Di talk about the joys of everything tandem!

Matilda is a very special tandem bicycle and her "dynamic crew" are "old gal" Di and "old git" Colin who tell us all about the joys of a bicycle made for two.

We are talking all things tandem this episode and it's about the smiles not the miles as many of Matilda's rides are. We hear about how true love can blossom from a blind date on tandem, how it's always better when you tandem together and who the Nutty Tandemers are and what they get up to!

Colin and Di also give tips on how to get into tandem riding, some of the trials and tribulations of their adventures and how a tandem bicycle writes an award-winning blog!

Episode 10: Tandem WOW, Female Record Holder for Tandeming around the World

Tandem WOW is Cat Dixon and Rachael (Raz) Marsden and this incredible tandem pair not only hold the female tandem World circumnavigation record, but also beat the means record by 17days!

They have been one of our biggest inspirations for our attempt and this was an amazing opportunity to hear about how they did it.

They have also been named in the top 100 women in cycling 2020 and have raised an immense amount of money for their charities: Oxfam and the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Episode 9: Helen Langridge, Round the World Cyclist

After a brief diversion from cycling, we are back with a bang with Helen Langridge.  Helen quickly caught the long-distance bug, cycling LeJoG solo before meeting her partner Mike. now husband, and deciding to cycle around the World with him!

They completed an epic Round the World tour and I reckon Helen is just getting started in the long-distance cycling scene with plenty of exciting plans to come!

Special Edition: Running Coast to Coast

There has been a slight gap in podcast episodes of late... but with good reason:  Laura has been running Wainright's Coast to Coast route in 6 days!!

If anything is going to teach the SteLa tandem team about endurance, team and keeping going when the going gets tough it is this run, especially with the unprecedented May weather.

Laura completed the 188miles and 30,569ft of climbing from St Bees to Robin Hoods Bay in the 6days and gained plenty of donations to Vetlife along the way.  If you would like to donate too:

Episode 8: Leigh Timmis, Round the World Cyclist and World Record Holder

In 2018 Leigh Timmis became the fastest person to cycle across Europe travelling from Portugal to Siberia in an astounding 16days, 10hours and 45minutes.  Prior to this he has completed a circumnavigation of the World at a slightly more leisurely pace, but still covering 44,000 miles across 50 countries.  We have a great chat about what it took to undertake and complete these amazing feats of endurance, puns and some fantastic ideas for who best to put on your tandem!
